Computer Science Student Event Assistant

General Description

The Computer Science Department is seeking a motivated student to assist the Department Chair in planning, coordinating, and hosting departmental events. This temporary position is ideal for students with strong communication and organizational skills who are interested in gaining experience in event coordination and academic department operations.
Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Department Chair to plan and execute departmental events such as lunch & learn events, lectures, student meets, workshops, and other gatherings.
Coordinate event logistics, including room reservations, promotional materials, technical setup, and support.
Create event announcements for distribution.
Maintain an organized calendar of events and assist in tracking attendance and collecting feedback.
Qualifications

Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for the Fall or Spring semester, or a minimum of 3 credit hours for the Summer semester.
Current OCCC student with a federal work‑study award.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other visual communication software tools to create flyers, promotional videos, etc.
Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings for events.
Preferred Qualifications

Current student at OCCC, preferably in Computer Science or a related field.
Physical Demands

Light work: may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
Required to frequently communicate with students, faculty, staff, and others, exchanging accurate information in various situations.
Required to move about the department to assist students and perform essential functions.
Required to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Occasional need to position self to access materials above head or at ground level.
Required to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 20 pounds to push, pull, grasp, and/or lift materials or equipment.
Safety and Policy & Procedures

Abide by all Board of Regents and College Policies & Procedures.
Contribute to a safe educational and working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for injury and illness prevention.
Complete quarterly health and safety training per OCCC procedures.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, and shelter‑in‑place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in emergencies.
