With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding Division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard. We are currently building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface navy fleet.
The Role
Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
Utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM or CATIA.
Gather information, perform studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals.
Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups to ensure ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and compliance with contractual specifications.
Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
Qualifications
Must have
High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience
OR associates degree or other 2‑year technical degree in a related discipline and 1 year experience
Nice to have
Familiarity with interior communication or power distribution systems on U.S. Navy ships
Understanding of ship design and blueprint reading
