Position Responsibilities

Position Summary
This is a full time fiscal year, tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full professor. While this role is 100% leadership, the position will hold rank and tenure status within UI Extension 4-H Youth Development within the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Rank and Tenure will be awarded based on College and Unit bylaws.

The University of Idaho, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, UI Extension 4-H Youth Development Unit is seeking a faculty member for a 100% administrative role as the State 4-H Director. This position provides leadership for the statewide UI Extension 4-H Youth Development program.

The successful candidate will have achieved the rank of full professor with tenure, or its equivalent, at an accredited university. Alternatively, the candidate may have established a professional record at an institution that does not award professorial rank or tenure to Extension professionals that is sufficient to be awarded full professor and tenure at the University of Idaho.

The UI Extension State 4-H Youth Development Director provides overall effective administrative and visionary leadership for all areas of the statewide 4-H Youth Development program. The director is responsible for programmatic leadership related to program development, implementation, and evaluation, and for leading the development and implementation of the long‑term Idaho 4-H vision, mission, and strategic plan.

The director will recruit and retain a high‑quality workforce and will be responsible for hiring, direct supervision, evaluation, salary recommendations, and promotion and/or tenure processes for assigned personnel, including nine faculty members and seven staff members. The director will also manage 4-H Youth Development budgets and seek external funding to support high‑priority programs.

The director reports to the Associate Dean/Director of UI Extension, serves on the Extension Administrative Leadership Team, and participates on College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and University committees as requested. The director will represent UI Extension 4-H Youth Development to internal and external audiences at the state, regional, and national levels.

This administrative role will receive a 25% base salary stipend.

This administrative appointment or the administrative portion of the faculty appointment is temporary. Employee acknowledges and agrees that in the event there is no longer a need for the administrative assignment, as determined by University in its sole discretion, University may change this Agreement and remove the administrative salary and/or course release during the contract year and employee may return to their faculty appointment, upon 60 days written notice.

Qualifications
Minimum Education/Degree Required

Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or Ed.D in youth development, human development, public administration, agricultural sciences, agriculture education, education, nutrition and health or related field of study

Must hold the rank of full professor with tenure, or its equivalent, at an accredited university Extension program, or possess a professional record sufficient to qualify for appointment as a full professor with tenure at the University of Idaho.

Five or more years of programmatic leadership experience in 4-H Youth Development at the county, district, state, regional, and/or national levels.

Experience in administrative and organizational leadership with responsibility for setting goals and objectives; strategic planning; critical decision-making; budgeting and financial planning; resource management; and personnel supervision.

Experience working as part of a team and communicating verbally and in writing.

Experience leading teams that support success, respect, and the achievement of shared goals.

Experience securing external funding to support programmatic priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in designing, promoting, implementing, delivering, and evaluating community-based, volunteer-delivered outreach education programs for youth and adult audiences.

A positive national reputation as evidenced by appropriate professional service.

Experience leading multi-state or national committees.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Valid driver’s license.

Willingness and ability to travel to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.
