St. John’s Episcopal Church is seeking a full-time Communications Manager to oversee and strengthen the parish communications, digital presence, and brand. This position plays a central role in telling the story of parish life clearly, beautifully, and consistently across print, email, social media, web, and video platforms.

St. John’s is a fast‑paced and highly collaborative parish environment with an active worship, formation, and events calendar. The Communications Manager supports the mission of the Church by communicating in a way that is both informative and evangelistic, inspiring parish involvement and spiritual growth.

This position reports directly to the Rector and works closely with clergy, staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and musicians across the life of the parish.

The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of communications experience—and is proactive, organized, and flexible. This role requires the ability to take initiative, respond graciously in a dynamic environment, and contribute to the common goals of the parish with humility, creativity, and professionalism. It’s also important to be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt quickly, and communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities
Parish Communications

Produce and distribute regular parish communications, including bulletins/service leaflets for Sunday services, feast days, funerals, weddings, Holy Week, Christmas, Easter, and other special liturgies

The Compass weekly print newsletter

The Scroll weekly email newsletter

Ministry‑specific email communications

Create and coordinate annual pledge drive materials, annual report, parish‑wide mailings, and other printed materials

Coordinate communication deadlines with clergy, music staff, and ministry leaders

Edit and rewrite submitted content to ensure consistency with the voice and style of the parish

Manage printing and production timelines for weekly and seasonal materials

Social Media & Digital Presence

Manage the parish social media presence across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and emerging platforms as appropriate

Create graphics, reels, videos, photography, captions, and promotional materials

Capture content at parish events, worship services, formation opportunities, and special liturgies

Help communicate the life of the parish in a way that is engaging, reverent, and welcoming

Monitor engagement, messages, and analytics across digital platforms

Assist in scheduling livestreams and coordinating with volunteer livestream teams for worship services and special events

Website & Online Communications

Maintain and regularly update the parish website

Coordinate digital event registration and online communications

Assist in long‑term website improvement and redesign initiatives

Manage email databases and audience segmentation through Constant Contact and other platforms

Communications Strategy & Branding

Strengthen and maintain a cohesive parish communications strategy and visual identity

Ensure consistency in branding, tone, style, and messaging across all parish communications

Help identify opportunities for outreach, evangelism, and visitor engagement through communications and digital media

Support parish growth by helping communicate the mission, worship, ministries, and culture of St. John’s clearly and effectively

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills

Experience managing social media platforms and digital communications

Experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite

Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced parish environment

Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills

Willingness to work Sundays and occasional evenings for major parish events and liturgical seasons

Appreciation for the mission and ministry of the Church

Ability to adapt quickly and manage shifting priorities with professionalism

Ability to work independently while remaining highly communicative with staff and clergy

Willingness to learn new platforms, workflows, and parish systems

Desire to contribute positively to a collaborative staff culture

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Episcopal liturgy, church culture, and the liturgical calendar strongly preferred

Experience working in a church, nonprofit, or mission‑driven organization

Experience with WordPress, YouTube Studio, iMovie, Realm, photography and basic videography, and basic understanding of branding, communications strategy, and audience engagement

Work Schedule
This is a full‑time salaried position with benefits.

Sunday presence is preferred with occasional Sundays required for major parish events, liturgical celebrations, and other special occasions. Regular workweeks typically include Monday through Friday, except during major liturgical seasons and special parish events.

This position normally follows a Monday–Friday schedule. Because the life of the Church extends beyond the workweek, occasional Sunday attendance is required for major parish events, liturgical celebrations, and other special occasions. During weeks when Sunday work is required, a weekday (typically Monday or Friday) will be designated as time off.

Some evening work is required for parish events, feast days, Holy Week, Christmas, Easter, and other major occasions in the life of the parish.

Some remote work flexibility is available after an initial training and onboarding period.
