Pay Range: $1,483.20 - $1,596.50 per credit hour


Pay Determination: Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.


FLSA Status: Exempt


Hours: Fall 2026 Semester; Class meets: Mondays 8:25-11:05, Thursday and Friday 2:00-6:00. Live Lab is also scheduled on Thursdays between 8:25 am-11:00 pm. Office Hours required.

Job Description: The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach a section of BDJ 664 TV & Digital News Reporting I during the Fall 2026 semester (4 credits).


Class meets on Mondays 8:25 am-11:05 am; Thursday and Fridays 2:00 pm-6:00 pm; there is also live lab scheduled on Thursdays 8:30 am-11:00 pm.


Course Description: This course teaches BDJ master's students how to produce broadcast news packages and also report those stories via social media and multimedia web stories. In addition, students take part in live TV reporting drills.


This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.


Qualifications



  • Masters degree preferred.

  • Bachelors degree with relevant industry experience will also be considered.


Job Specific Qualifications



  • University level teaching experience is a plus.

  • The successful candidate will have substantial experience in writing and reporting local TV news, both packaged and live.

  • Since students gather information and report online and through social media, the candidate must have experience in storytelling across platforms.


Responsibilities


It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:



  • Developing a syllabus.

  • Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.

  • Preparing for classes.

  • Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.

  • Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.

  • Ability to hold office hours on campus.

  • Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.


Tools/Equipment



  • Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
