Job Description
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University seeks one or more instructors to teach two 3-credit sections of MND 408/608 Magazine and News Editing during Fall 2026.
Course Description: This class covers editorial skills demanded by media organizations, including editing and rewriting copy, identifying audiences, creating cross-platform content, generating ideas, working with writers, story organization, writing display copy, and fact-checking.
Qualifications
- A strong journalism background with specific experience as an editor is required.
- Familiarity with multiple media platforms and teaching experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Develop a syllabus.
- Order books and materials for students prior to the first class.
- Prepare for classes.
- Hold office hours weekly to meet with students and colleagues.
- Grading of student assignments and examinations in a timely manner and submit mid-semester progress reports and final grades per university regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Instruct the class on scheduled days and times.
- Hold office hours on campus.
- Grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools & Equipment
- Operate standard classroom instructional technology such as computer, projector, document camera, etc.
