We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable designer to join our creative team as an Associate Art Director. The ideal candidate brings expert-level InDesign skills, strong command of typography and editorial page layout, and a sharp eye for photography. This role requires both creativity and diligence, with the ability to stay on top of multiple moving parts, carefully manage details, and meet incremental deadlines that keep projects flowing smoothly. You’ll work collaboratively to deliver compelling design solutions while helping maintain a cohesive visual tone.

The position supports both our Los Angeles and Pasadena magazines, as well as aiding on custom publishing projects, with a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

Execute editorial layout and design (InDesign with style sheets)

Conduct resourceful image research, editing, and selection

Perform light photo retouching and image enhancement (Photoshop)

Organize and manage visual assets and file systems, including coordinating with external contributors

Create and adapt assets for digital use on lamag.com

Coordinate with the art director to set interim milestones

Collaborate across teams to deliver cohesive, compelling visual solutions

Creating carousels for print stories that go on social media

Qualifications

Expert InDesign; strong Photoshop and Illustrator skills

Strong sense of page composition, typography, and photography

Magazine or editorial design experience preferred

Highly organized, detail-oriented, resourceful

A self-starter with a strong work ethic and dedication to seeing projects through

Excellent communicator and proactive problem-solver

Passionate about iterative design and visual storytelling

Dependable in meeting incremental deadlines that requires occasional work on weekends.
