As the only statewide radio and television broadcast network, MPB connects Mississippi households and communities. MPB programming focuses on the people, resources and attractions that reflect Mississippi's unique culture and diverse heritage. MPB provides a valuable resource to Mississippians in disseminating information as part of the state's emergency preparedness and response system. With live stream, on‑demand episodes of both radio and television favorites and the latest from MPB news, the MPB App provides listeners and viewers with a way to stay connected, no matter where in the world they may be. MPB reaches over 50,000 people a day through various social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram. MPB's social channels provide information, news and entertainment around the clock, even in emergency situations.
Responsibilities
Pitch, plan and report news, feature and enterprise stories for all platforms, including broadcast, digital and social media.
Gather materials on tape and otherwise, through interviews, press conferences and direct coverage of events.
Organize, edit and produce pieces and news spots in consultation with editors.
Collaborate with editors and show staff to shape on‑air two‑way discussions; speak fluently and conversationally live on the air.
Build web stories, including writing them and making photos and/or videos.
Develop news sources.
Will host, co‑host, and/or anchor news programs, newscasts or stories for MPB Radio and/or Television when determined appropriate.
Qualifications
Ability to pitch story ideas, produce quick‑turn newscast stories and long‑form features.
Ability to produce engaging digital stories and actively contribute to MPB’s social media channels.
Willingness to travel across the state to report stories.
Ability to serve as a back‑up host on an as needed basis.
Willingness to work non‑standard hours, including occasional weekends and holidays.
Knows how to effectively and proficiently operate field recording equipment to achieve quality audio, and is responsible for learning equipment and maintaining it.
Knows how to effectively and proficiently operate studio boards.
Knows how to effectively and proficiently post stories, programs, audio, photos, videos and other materials to social media and MPB website.
Proficient in audio editing (Adobe Audition), NewsBoss, Google Drive, Microsoft Teams, and basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 1‑4 years of experience.
1 year of reporting/producing experience would be preferred.
