Position Purpose
Lead a comprehensive instrumental music program aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study while promoting musical excellence, student achievement, leadership, and positive school culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging instrumental music instruction.

Teach music theory, technique, sight‑reading, music history, and ensemble performance.

Assess student learning and maintain accurate records.

Recruit and retain students in the band program.

Prepare students for concerts, festivals, adjudications, and honor band opportunities.

Maintain inventory of instruments, uniforms, music, and equipment.

Coordinate repairs and manage the music budget.

Communicate effectively with parents and school staff.

Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, and field trips.

Participate in faculty meetings and professional development.

Perform other duties assigned by the principal.

Direct concert band, marching band, pep band, jazz band, and chamber ensembles as assigned.

Plan summer band camp, after‑school rehearsals, football performances, parades, competitions, and community events.

Coordinate with athletic staff, booster organizations, and community partners.

Prepare students for NCBA/NCMEA events, All‑District, and All‑State auditions.

Manage fundraising activities in accordance with district policy.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong conducting and classroom management skills.

Knowledge of brass, woodwind, and percussion pedagogy.

Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Ability to use instructional technology and music notation software.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.

North Carolina Professional Educator License in Music (K–12) or eligibility.

Successful criminal background check.

Physical Requirements

Stand for extended periods and conduct rehearsals.

Lift and move instruments/equipment up to 50 pounds.

Work evenings, weekends, and travel as required for performances.

Job Requirements

At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.

Bachelor degree preferred.

Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
