The University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine is seeking a talented full-time Social Media Specialist. This position will independently create and manage content for the School of Medicine social media platforms, ensuring that content is compelling, accurate, relevant, current, and consistent with CU brand messaging. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, the ability to stay on task, and the ability to work with varying levels of staff and faculty to gather information, write, and distribute content appropriately. The hybrid role requires excellent project management abilities in a fast-paced environment, with two to three (2–3) days a week expected in the office connecting with leaders, physicians, researchers, and staff.
The Social Media Specialist will be a contributing member of the CU Anschutz School of Medicine communications team, supporting the goals of the Dean’s Office. This position will help to elevate and connect the communications between the school and its departments, divisions, and centers through our shared services structure.
Key Responsibilities
Works with Social Media Program Lead and Communications Program Managers to develop social media strategy, including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads, and Bluesky to promote the mission and vision of the School of Medicine and its departments, divisions, and centers.
Generates photos, videos, and infographics for social media.
Supports Social Media Program Lead in maintaining the social media editorial content calendar.
Develops, implements, and tracks the effectiveness of social media or digital campaigns.
Responds promptly to messages, comments, and inquiries.
Monitors social media to manage mentions of the School of Medicine and engage in relevant online discussions.
Builds and maintains relationships with faculty and staff within the CU Anschutz School of Medicine and shared services units.
Collaborate with colleagues at CU Anschutz, UCHealth, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Veterans Affairs, and other partners as appropriate.
Identify and implement best practices regarding communication practices, strategies, and tools.
Attend campus communications meetings as needed.
Work Location:
Hybrid – two to three (2–3) days per week on campus with in-person meetings as needed.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism, or other related fields.
Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
Two (2) years of experience working in professional or branded social media growth and management, or related communications, public relations, and marketing field(s), preferably in health care or higher education.
Those selected for interviews will be asked to provide work samples of the following: 3–5 social media posts, considering a mix of infographics, videos, and website posts.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Communications experience in a university, academic medical center, and/or large hospital system environment.
Experience with Smartsheet, Sprout, or other calendar/social media management tools.
Experience with photography, videography, and video editing.
Additional training/professional development in social media strategy and implementation, search engine optimization, content management systems, and video editing.
Experience with project management, prioritization, timelines, and ensuring on-time deliverables.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exceptional independent writing skills and experience developing clear, concise, and key message-focused communications.
Willingness to learn and receive feedback on effective social media best practices.
Excellent knowledge of editing and grammar, including AP style.
Able to work with and manage multiple perspectives and actively listen to others to understand their perspective.
Demonstrated ability to capture the voice of a brand/person and deliver it consistently.
Strong data literacy, including KPIs, trends, dashboards, and reporting.
Highly organized and dependable; able to multitask, work quickly, and effectively manage multiple deadlines with minimal supervision.
Self-starter who can work independently and in a team environment.
Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of HIPAA policies and procedures.

Screening and Compensation
Screening of applications begins immediately and continues until July 15, 2026.
Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range is $54,254 to $72,701. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Total compensation includes health plans and retirement contributions.
