Commercial Real Estate Director II
The Commercial Real Estate Director II is the most senior individual contributor responsible for managing relationships within an extensive portfolio of Commercial Real Estate customers. They are highly skilled, experienced relationship managers capable of independently originating, structuring, and executing large complex Commercial Real Estate transactions. The role drives revenue growth through loan and deposit generation, cross‑selling bank services to existing customers, and soliciting services to non‑customers. Services include financing and depository products related to real estate investments, income property, development, construction and more. They may also provide oversight to analysts, associates and CAP participants.
The role is accountable for risk. It involves openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. The Director consistently identifies, assesses, manages, monitors, and reports on all types of risk while operating within the bank’s risk appetite. They also ensure that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience and always do the right thing for customers and colleagues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain important client relationships.
- Produce and maintain profitable Commercial Real Estate loan volume, with primary responsibility for cross‑sell, return generation, and First Line of Defense.
- Qualify prospects and lead the development of new business opportunities from prospects and the existing customer base.
- Ensure relationships are managed to the highest profit potential for the bank and develop profitable new business, cross‑sell applicable products and services, and manage the sales process in a specific geographic area for commercial real estate loans.
- Assist in the development of new Commercial Real Estate Relationship Managers, Associates and Analysts.
- Develop intimate knowledge of all customers and businesses.
- Build strong working relationships with peers and senior leaders in Commercial Real Estate and the rest of the organization.
- Underwrite credit requests and approve real estate loans within established lending limits or make recommendations on loans that require higher approval authority.
- Monitor ongoing customer performance, capabilities and industry trends to confirm the loan is an acceptable risk.
- Ensure proper reporting, documentation and review to determine that a loan is an acceptable risk.
- Identify credit opportunities that may lead to significant non‑credit sales.
- Deliver value‑added financial solutions ranging from traditional to customized products to existing and prospective clients.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, developments and regulations in local markets.
- Coordinate all client‑facing activities related to clients, including credit support and product areas (e.g. Treasury Management).
- Attend community and industry‑specific forums, conferences and meetings to broaden the relationship network and deepen knowledge of trends, practices, products and competitors.
- Participate in community affairs and projects to promote the image of the bank.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- No direct reports, however the incumbent may provide oversight and direction for Associates, Analysts and Commercial Leadership Program participants.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred.
- 8‑10+ years of experience in banking, finance or a related field.
- 4+ years of commercial real estate experience and sales management preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated sales and negotiation experience.
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Strong credit training required and underwriting skills preferred.
- Proven track record of success in working as part of a team to originate and close complex financial transactions.
- Effective interaction with senior executives inside and outside the organization.
- Strong relationship‑building skills.
