Course Description
This course is a practical study and performance of advanced solo vocal music in a private coaching and master class format. The repertoire will be chiefly selected from Lieder, Mélodie, and art song, and will also include orchestral songs and arias. Choices will be made in collaboration with the student, applied‑music teacher, and vocal coach. Emphasis will be on effective interpretation and communication, including musical, interpretive, stylistic, performance, and language/diction considerations. Independent repertoire choices and audition preparation are expected for the second‑year course.

Duties

Define course objectives.

Prepare course materials.

Provide clear guidelines on course requirements and regulations.

Teach classes as scheduled.

Administer and evaluate student assignments.

Prepare and submit final grades in accordance with policy.

Maintain reasonable hours of student consultation outside scheduled class hours.

Qualifications

Graduate degree in performance; doctorate preferred.

Active performing career combined with extensive knowledge of vocal repertoire in multiple languages and styles.

Demonstrated excellence in coaching singers in vocal repertoire at the university level.
