Job Description
The Senior Editor works under the supervision of the Director of News and Media Relations to oversee copyediting and proofreading for the Office of Communications and Marketing at The Huntington.

About the Role
Responsible for editing, proofreading, and publishing a wide range of institutional materials—including newsletters, releases, web content, and marketing copy—on tight deadlines.

Essential Duties

Copy edit and proofread institutional materials; coach writers; ensure quality control.

Lead editorial review of web and digital content, train contributors, maintain a digital content guide, and enforce accessibility standards.

Project‑manage editorial content, coordinate with writers, designers, freelancers, and provide status updates while overseeing publishing workflows.

Update and enforce the institution’s style guide; train contributors on Huntington style.

Write backup copy as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements and Experience

Strong eye for detail, grammar, style, and clarity aligned with Associated Press style (Chicago Manual a plus).

Proven track record of high‑quality editorial work on tight deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Experience leading and providing constructive feedback to writers and content producers.

Organizational skills managing workflows of freelance editors and proofreaders.

Strong project‑management background with proven publication management.

Efficiency in managing time, navigating competing demands, and prioritizing deadlines.

Writing and editing ability that supports brand integrity, voice, and mission.

Experience coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, copy‑editing software, PDF editing, and online editing.

Education and Experience

Five to seven years in editing and writing for cultural organizations, museums, universities, or news outlets.

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or equivalent preferred; substitutes may be considered.

Working Conditions
Normal office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and computer use.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $85,000–$95,000.
