GHPC is interested to hear from experienced CDM Principal Designers who have appropriate construction knowledge and membership of a relevant professional institution, who would be interested in joining our team to assist us in delivering a quality service to clients in Scotland and throughout the United Kingdom. Role
We are looking to appoint a CDM Principal Designer to join our team to provide high-quality CDM and PD services to developers and clients across the UK. Representing the company as a key client contact, you will be responsible for managing your own CDM projects and serving as the key interface between the client, design, and construction teams to provide CDM and H&S advice. You will take on the role of CDM PD to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate Health & Safety in pre‑construction phases, including identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks. This will assist clients to deliver projects in line with their remit, programme and budget.

Responsibilities

Produce high‑quality information and advice as required (including Pre‑Construction Information, CEMPs, Construction Phase Plans and Risk Appraisals).

Liaise with project contacts and manage the information flow required.

Manage project admin, including company project budget management, organising client purchase orders and submitting invoicing.

Provide support to the wider CDM Team.

Review Construction Phase Plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and oversee the preparation of Health & Safety Files as projects progress.

Take part in weekly team meetings, regular client project meetings, and coordinate Design Review Workshops.

Visit sites prior to construction to carry out initial risk appraisals and attend site during works to carry out Client Monitoring Inspections.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience acting as a CDM Principal Designer, current membership of the Association for Project Safety (minimum IMaPS but CMaPS preferred), and excellent IT skills.

Essential requirements:

Thorough understanding of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 and related legislation (Building Safety Act, Health & Safety at Work Act, Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations).

Demonstrable understanding of design and construction drawings with extensive experience of undertaking Design Risk Reviews.

Excellent knowledge of the built environment and construction processes with significant experience in the construction industry.

Existing Health & Safety qualification (preferably NEBOSH Diploma and/or NEBOSH Construction Certificate).

Desirable

A degree or equivalent in a Built Environment subject and/or membership of other relevant professional bodies (MCABE, MCIOB, RIBA, MRICS, MAPM, MIStructE, MICE, CEng, etc).

NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate or equivalent.

CMIOSH Accreditation (Chartered Membership of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health).

Physical Requirements
Ability to move around a construction site safely, climb ladders, access scaffolding, and work at height. GHPC will provide PPE.

Technical & Communication Skills
Extremely IT literate, experienced user of Microsoft Office and mobile phone software, excellent English language skills, excellent report writing and communication skills, highly organized, prioritises workload, multi‑tasking flexibility, smart business appearance, discreet nature, common sense, full‑clean driving licence and roadworthy vehicle for business use.
