Position Function
The Department of Music seeks an energetic and collaborative faculty member to build and lead a dynamic applied trumpet studio. The successful candidate will teach applied trumpet, coach chamber ensembles, and contribute to the department’s growth in curriculum and community engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach a 3.3 course load in studio trumpet and other brass‑related courses.
- Maintain a clear research agenda, including publications, presentations, professional performances, and potential external funding.
- Direct the MSU Trumpet Consort and coach student chamber ensembles.
- Assume secondary teaching responsibilities based on departmental needs and candidate expertise.
- Participate in university, college, and department committees, service, and recruiting activities.
- Perform with faculty chamber ensembles.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in music or a related field, completed by the time of appointment.
- Appropriate performance experience on trumpet.
- Successful experience teaching studio trumpet.

- Collaborative work in diverse academic and community settings.
- Experience recruiting and maintaining a thriving trumpet studio.
- Alignment of academic and professional characteristics with the missions of the university, college, and department.
- Professional performance experience.
- University teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Teaching trumpet with a collaborative approach to chamber music coaching and a robust research agenda.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
No unusual physical requirements. Work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
