Adjunct Faculty – Languages of the Stage (TH101)

Join our community and experience Emerson College! The Performing Arts Department of Emerson College is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach 1 section of Languages of the Stage (TH101), an “introduction to theatre” course for theatre majors, during the Fall 2026 semester (September2–December21,2026).
TH101 is a discussion course designed specifically for first‑year students majoring in Performing Arts. It introduces students to methods of analysis to examine theatrical styles, or “languages” of the stage, culminating in an exploration of contemporary work. Students learn various approaches to play analysis and the “languages” of working in the theatre from the varied perspectives of theatre professionals—actors, directors, designers, playwrights, etc.—focused on their distinctive contributions to integrated theatrical collaboration.
Central to the course is an examination of the relationship between the literary and performative dimensions of drama and the relationship between theatre and its cultural context, particularly how systemic oppression and resistance to the dominant “Western” theatrical values have operated.
Course Structure & Schedule

Team‑taught; meets three times per week.
Monday lectures, 12–1:45PM, large group of 60–80 students (teachers must attend).
Monday/Wednesday discussions, 4–5:45PM, smaller groups of 16–20 students (TH101 section1).
Total of 28 discussion meetings and 14 lecture meetings.
In‑person course.
