CURRENT EMPLOYEES - This career site is for external applicants only.Employee Type: RegularThe business manager is responsible for all aspects of accounting, costing, payroll, timekeeping, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, procurement, contract administration and warehouse operations at the Falkirk Mine. This position is also responsible for the accurate and complete accumulation and compilation of financial data and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. In addition, the business manager must have extensive knowledge of the Coal Sales Agreement and experience fostering strong relationships with customers and corporate personnel. This role leads a staff of direct reports and works in close collaboration with the mine president and all departments of the Falkirk Mining Company.Job Description:Key Responsibilities:Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in compliance with GAAP, SOX and the Coal Sales AgreementHave comprehensive knowledge of the Coal Sales Agreement to ensure all business-related practices are in compliance and customer billings and accounting are correct, per the terms of the agreementOversee accounting, procurement, warehouse and inventory management functionsSupervise accounting, warehouse and procurement personnelRecruit, train, develop and evaluate department staffFoster a collaborative, high-performance team environmentLead development, review, and execution of annual operating budgets and financial forecastsAnalyze financial performanceMaintain a strong relationship with the customer and serve as primary liaison on financial, costing and accounting mattersDevelop and maintain strong relationships with mine personnel and corporate accounting, tax, audit, payroll and treasury staffEngage and involve customer and corporate accounting/tax in determining the GAAP treatment for unusual or complex transactions and accounting entriesSupport development of mine plans, tonnage schedules, capital planning and equipment replacement strategies in coordination with engineering and maintenance departmentsEvaluate and improve budgeting, forecasting and financial processesEnsure compliance with vendor agreements and good procurement practices and minimize financial risk exposureOversee internal and external financial and operational audits, timely keeping the customer and corporate accounting updated throughout the audit processMaintain a system of controls over accounting transactions and systems consistent with company policies, including approvals in accordance with the Limits of AuthorityPrepare timely and complete periodic financial information and management cost reportsLead and prepare materials for customer meetings, board presentations and annual reviewsProvide support for ERP/EAM systems (e.g., JD Edwards), including troubleshooting and process improvementSupport ad hoc projects and initiatives as assignedPerform all duties in accordance with MSHA regulations, company policies, procedures and applicable requirementsQualifications/Skills & Competencies:RequiredB a c h e l o r ’ s degree in accounting, finance or business administrationMinimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance or financial planning and analysisExperience and collaboration in dealing with GAAP accounting determinations and technical accounting proficiencyStrong instincts to pull in corporate support or other technical experts in making technical accounting determinations for complex or unusual transactionsExperience leading business or accounting teams and managing annual planning processesStrong background in economic evaluation, budgets, business planning, financial modeling and reporting to senior leadershipDemonstrated integrity and sound professional judgmentStrong leadership presence with the ability to influence and build credibility within the departments and across the organizationAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPointAbility to interpret and communicate complex financial information to diverse audiencesProven ability to work with internal and external customers providing exemplary customer service and responsivenessEffective written, interpersonal and verbal communication skillsStrong work ethic with a commitment to achieving quality resultsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlinesResults-oriented with attention to detail
