Position Overview
Student will assist the Pioneer Editor/Advisor and team in regular publication of the student newspaper and affiliated media by contributing content and skills such as writing, photography, proofreading, translation, etc.
Eligibility
Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours for the Fall or Spring semester, or 3 credit hours for the Summer semester, OR current OCCC student with a Federal Work Study award. AND successful completion of English Composition II and/or recommendation from a professor.
Requirements
Good communication and human relations skills.
Typing ability.
Basic computer knowledge.
Self‑motivated, punctual, detail‑oriented, and able to meet deadlines.
Essential Functions
Contribute content for news articles, interviews, event previews, podcasts, and/or feature stories for the Pioneer newspaper and online presence.
Attend news conferences and/or relevant OCCC events; take notes and incorporate information.
Use AP style correctly, employ proper grammar, and ensure information reported is factual.
Interview story sources and accurately transcribe content for media coverage.
Take photos for media outlets, as needed.
Physical Demands
Sedentary work; occasional movement and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Frequent campus movement and communication with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff.
Operating computers and office machinery.
Visual acuity to judge accuracy and neatness of work.
Indoor classroom or office setting; occasional outdoor events.
