Role Overview
Lead delivery of complex AWS cloud solution projects for Department of Defense customers, managing technical and program aspects, engaging stakeholders, and ensuring successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Own, lead and shape large and/or complex engagements to deliver business outcomes, managing ambiguity and independent execution.
Influence external teams, mentor staff, and participate in Technical Promotion Assessments.
Apply delivery frameworks, develop comprehensive plans, negotiate acceptance conditions, and share best practices across teams.
Effectively communicate across internal and external audiences, drive stakeholder alignment, and contribute to strategic documentation.
Impact organizational metrics, customer outcomes, and AWS service offerings, influencing roadmap prioritization.
Lead technical engagements, validate solutions against business objectives, and educate others on frameworks.
Accelerate progress by improving cross‑team processes, establishing operational excellence standards, and creating consistency in management.
What You’ll Do
Combine technical expertise with project leadership to drive AWS‑based solution implementations.
Apply AWS frameworks (Well‑Architected, Cloud Adoption Framework) and delivery methodologies (Agile, Scaled Agile, Waterfall, ITIL).
Translate customer needs into technical requirements, decompose complex problems, and make informed trade‑off decisions.
Validate solutions, participate in architectural reviews, and manage technical risks.
Maintain relevant AWS certifications and domain expertise (migration, database, healthcare, financial services).
Create and lead project plans for AWS, customer, and partner resources.
Enforce quality standards and security protocols, facilitate release planning, build roadmaps, and organize complex workstreams.
Proactively identify risks, resolve issues, and drive projects to successful completion, redirecting distressed programs as needed.
Lead business and technical discussions, communicate to technical and business audiences, build relationships, resolve conflict, use data‑driven decisions, and shape pre‑sales opportunities.
Establish new capabilities, tools, and delivery kits to improve efficiency and decision quality.
Own root‑cause resolution through COE activities and contribute to strategic planning.
Build, develop, and mentor high‑performing teams, recruit top talent, participate in interviews, and provide promotion feedback.
A Day in the Life
You lead complex cloud projects for Department of Defense customers—modernization programs, classified system migrations, AI/ML capabilities, and more. You facilitate daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming; conduct technical exchanges, sprint reviews, stakeholder demos; troubleshoot technical issues, align with military IT leaders and program managers, and conduct long‑range planning sessions. You coordinate AWS specialists, solutions architects, and partner companies, advocate for resources, control budgets, communicate with stakeholders, and mitigate risks. You mentor other engagement managers, turn around distressed projects, and establish best practices.
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of delivering IT projects with external customers or equivalent experience.
5+ years of program or engagement management, leading other project managers on multi‑project programs.
1+ year as Scrum Master or Product Owner across multiple cross‑functional teams.
3+ years of cloud computing experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Project management certification (e.g., APM, CSM, PMI‑ACP, PRINCE2).
AWS certification.
Knowledge of public cloud value proposition and engagement delivery (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
Experience presenting to C‑level executives, IT, and lines of business across organizations.
Benefits & Compensation
Base salary ranges from $131,200 to $177,600 annually (San Diego, CA; Denver, CO). The package includes sign‑on payments, restricted stock units, health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D, supplemental plans), EAP, mental health support, flexible spending accounts, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
