About the Role

The Company is seeking a Managing Director to play a pivotal role in its mission to create spaces that embody justice, healing, and self-determination. The successful candidate will be a steady, strategic leader with a background in architecture or real estate development, and a proven track record in community development and adaptive, solutionary leadership. This role is not for someone drawn to traditional practice models; rather, it is for a leader whose career has been driven by the question of how the built environment can serve communities, particularly those that have been historically resilient and deserving of infrastructure that reflects their needs. The Managing Director will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the organization's real estate and architecture verticals, deeply intersecting with fundraising and operations, and will work closely with the Executive Director to steward strategy, culture, and growth.

The ideal candidate will have over 15 years' experience in architecture and real estate development, with a significant focus on community management or owner-side project leadership, and at least 10 years in organizational leadership. They should be a strong people manager, with the ability to build trust, hold accountability with care, and actively mentor and develop their team. Experience in affordable housing, supportive housing, or community-serving real estate development is helpful but not required. The role demands a leader who is based in the Bay Area or willing to relocate, and who can hold complexity while creating clarity, particularly in resource-constrained environments. The Managing Director will also be involved in business development, external relationships, and project-level work, and must be prepared to engage with diverse communities with genuine curiosity and care.
