Most sales jobs ask you to oversell. This one is built so you never have to.
Signal & Strand is a boutique recruiting and people operations firm with National & International reach. Built on 25+ years inside the world's most demanding companies. We sell recruiting done right: founder-led searches at a 10% fee against an industry standard of 20 to 30%+, no retainers ever, a 90-day guarantee on every hire, and 100 days of FromJump® onboarding support after the start date. We also run Recruiting as a Service (RaaS), our RPO product, an embedded hiring function from $15k a month. And because you can't do well unless you also do good, a large portion of our profits goes to community causes, and our time goes to pro-bono recruiting for non-profits.
We built the machine: the brand, the pitch deck, the brochures, the booth kit, the trademarked story. Now we need the senior seller who takes it to market.
What you'll do
- Own sales, end to end. Hunt, qualify, pitch, and close. Research the companies and the people who run them, get on the phone, get in the room, and get the deal done. This is greenfield territory with a direct line to the founder, who closes and delivers beside you.
- Close the way we close. Hard on the effort, honest on the substance. When an HR leader owns a search, you work with them, never around them. That end-run is how the big shops operate, and it's exactly why people are tired of them.
- Be out in the community. HR groups, chambers of commerce, industry meetups, wherever our buyers gather. Some you attend, some you work, and the best ones you find before we do. Occasional national travel for conferences and client visits.
- This is a hunting role. If you need warm inbound handed to you, this isn't it. If you love the chase and you close clean, keep reading.
Who you are: a closer with a conscience
- You're a closer. You've carried a real quota selling a service for years and beaten it, ideally in staffing, recruiting, professional services, or HR tech. The phone doesn't scare you; the hunt energizes you.
- You've got presence. Poised and credible with senior people. A CHRO walks away feeling like they met a peer, not a vendor. You read the room and you own it.
- You're aggressive about the right things. You push the work, not the person. Persistent, never predatory, and you've never had to wonder which side of that line you're on.
- You win clean. No overselling, no freelancing on pricing, no end-runs around the person who trusted you. Relentless about the work without being slippery with people.
We walk away from bad business, even when the deal is big and the quarter is tight. If that sounds like lost revenue, we're not your shop. If it sounds like the whole point, welcome.
The offer, in plain numbers
- Base salary: $125,000
- Uncapped commission: 20% of the total fee on every contingent placement; 20% of everything a RaaS (RPO) client pays in year one, and a 5% residual on monthly revenue for as long as they stay, on accounts you personally manage. Commission eligibility begins once the revenue you bring in clears $50,000 in a month, and past that point you earn from the first dollar, not just the overage.
- Benefits: medical through Aetna (national) or Kaiser (California) with 100% of your employee premium covered and dependents addable; dental and vision through MetLife and Davis Vision, employee premium fully covered; company-paid short and long term disability plus life and AD&D insurance; 401k with a 3% company match; an employee assistance program at no cost; and optional employee-paid coverage including voluntary life, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity, FSA and dependent-care FSA, pet insurance, and commuter benefits.
- Time off: unlimited PTO, plus paid company holidays (20 in 2027, including two-day breaks at Spring, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas).
- Tools: company-issued Mac, ready on day one (we only work on Macs), and a $125 monthly allowance toward your home internet and cell phone.
How we hire
