The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public while promoting economic development and preserving New Mexico's environment. New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Transit and Rail Division provides information to transit providers and the public regarding public transit service, rules and regulations, applying for federal transit grant programs, transit and rail plans and programs, and permitting procedures for accessing and crossing rail right-of-way.

As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrate leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.

Why does the job exist?
The position exists to support the oversight of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant funding awarded to the state for distribution to local transit operators (subrecipients) across the state.

As the recipient of these funds, NMDOT Transit Bureau is responsible for ensuring that subrecipients comply with all Federal laws, rules, regulations, and policies.

How does it get done?

Conduct site visits to review local program policies and procedures for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, FTA –Drug and alcohol testing, Title VI, Disadvantaged Business Enterprise rules, among others.

Determine corrective actions required to maintain compliance.

Provide technical support and guidance to local programs to implement corrective actions.

Review procurement requests for federal and state compliance.

Review local requests for reimbursement to verify eligibility of expenses and availability of budget.

Work with local programs to develop and implement fleet management practices.

Work with FTA staff to clarify compliance and oversight practices.

Who are the customers?
The job is done for the people of New Mexico, particularly riders and operators of transit and transportation of the elderly and people with disabilities. Additional customers include local and tribal governments, Federal Transit Administration staff, and other bureaus in the department.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in Federal Transit Administration grant management and compliance oversight.

Experience in working with local and tribal governments.

Experience in providing one-on-one technical support.

Expertise in Microsoft Office products.

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate and First Aid/CPR certificate as a condition of continued employment. (Unless the position requires additional requirements.)

Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive phone usage. Travel is required as needed for local transit program site visits and attendance at trainings and conferences. Work is generally performed in an office setting with field work in varying weather conditions on multiple projects. May work extended hours and statewide travel including some overnight travel will be required. Sitting/standing/driving for extended periods of time and extended periods of work at a computer terminal with some bending may be required. Lifting up to fifty pounds may be required.
