Communications & Content Specialist
Department: MarComm-Strategic Marketing

Job Summary: The Communications & Content Specialist advances UGA’s strategic communications priorities by serving as the embedded communications professional for the Innovation District while also contributing editorial and storytelling content to the Division of Marketing & Communications’ institutional channels. The ideal candidate is a versatile communicator and strong writer who brings journalistic instincts, digital fluency, and the ability to navigate both unit-level and institution-wide priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in strategic communications, journalism, or related fields

Digital storytelling and content creation across multiple platforms

Strong project management and organizational skills

Proficiency with content management systems and social media management tools

Excellent written and verbal communication, copywriting, editing, and technical/science writing abilities

Ability to work independently with judgment, discretion, and professionalism

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong knowledge of marketing, communications, and public relations principles

Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders and deadlines

Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing demands

Familiarity with digital communications platforms, content management systems, and project management tools

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting, editing, general interest writing, and technical/science writing

Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of judgment, discretion, and professionalism

Duties & Responsibilities
Innovation District Communications (50%)

Act as the primary liaison between the Innovation District and MarComm, ensuring collaboration and alignment of shared priorities

Develop and maintain a strategic and effective communication plan for UGA’s Innovation District in line with university strategic priorities

Develop story ideas; conduct interviews with faculty, staff, and stakeholders; and write high-quality content to elevate the Innovation District through compelling storytelling

Oversee the Innovation District’s digital communications, managing official associated social media channels, calendar, and websites; coordinate social media posts with UGA’s central accounts for greater visibility and impact

Maintain and update content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and consistency with the institution’s brand and messaging

Develop, design and review presentations, newsletters, publications, infographics and talking points to inform and market to Innovation District stakeholders

Regularly analyze communication metrics to inform and refine overall strategy

Work with an event manager to plan and implement occasional special events for the Innovation District

Marketing Content Writing (50%)

Write editorial content for MarComm’s central channels

Adapt content for different channels and contexts while maintaining UGA’s brand voice and tone throughout

Interview faculty, staff, students, and campus stakeholders to gather information and develop story content; follow up with sources for review and approval as needed

Translate complex topics, research, institutional initiatives and campus programs into clear, readable copy

Ensure all content follows UGA style, is factually accurate, and positively reflects the UGA brand

Build relationships across campus to support research and sourcing for content assignments

Work within an established editorial workflow under the direction of the Executive Content Editor to deliver assignments on brief and on deadline

Physical Demands
Work in a standard office environment. Occasional nights and weekends required.

Compensation
$48,000 - $55,000 annually
