About DTMB
The Department of Technology, Management and Budget supports the business operations of state agencies through services such as building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems. This position is within the Center for Shared Solutions area of DTMB.

About the position
A Senior UX Designer will lead the efforts to research, design, and implement user experiences for digital products or tools. Responsibilities include leading discussions with clients to understand needs and goals, conducting usability testing, creating product prototypes, and performing competitor and user analyses. The role works in cross‑functional teams of project managers, developers, testers, and configuration managers.

Position location
This position is located in Lansing, MI and may operate on a hybrid schedule with two office days per week. Candidates approved for a hybrid schedule are required to be based in Michigan.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with 21 semester (32 term) credits in one or a combination of: art and design, graphic design, interaction design, human-computer interaction (HCI), cognitive science, computer science, computer information systems, digital media, industrial design, or web design.

Experience

No specific type or amount is required.

Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology User Experience Analyst P11.

Or a combination of an associate’s degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in the education fields listed above and two years of experience as a UI/UX designer, user researcher, or graphic designer. Two thousand one hundred sixty hours of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant performing UI/UX assignments may substitute for the education requirement.

Alternatively, the educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and four years of experience as a UI/UX designer, user researcher, or graphic designer, or eight thousand three hundred (8,320) hours of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may substitute for the education requirement.
