At nLab, we are on a mission to make engineering accessible to absolutely everyone. We are a small startup building a pocket‑sized electronics lab and creating YouTube tutorials to help complete beginners—specifically adults and teens—learn electronics by building real, tangible projects: https://getnlab.com
As our long‑term video editor, you won't just be cutting footage—you will play a massive role in shaping how the world learns engineering, helping us turn intimidation into confidence.
OUR STYLE
Our style is closer to a crafting, cooking, crochet, or DIY tutorial than a flashy creator channel.
Think:
Let’s build this together.
Editing that supports learning.
We are specifically NOT looking for:
Excessive, jarring sound effects
Random zooms or aggressive “retention hacks” that distract from the lesson
Corporate explainer animations or AI‑generated stick figures
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIRED SKILLS
Long‑Term Collaboration: Edit regular long‑form YouTube tutorials (typically 8–12 minutes) as a core part of our growing team. This role has the definitive potential to turn into a long‑term hire.
Motion Graphics & Animation: A major requirement for this role is the ability to create clean, purposeful motion graphics, transitions, and on‑screen animations that visually reinforce complex concepts and show our app in action.
Pacing & Clarity: Improve pacing, ruthlessly remove unnecessary sections, and identify moments where viewers may become confused.
Follow the Curriculum: If hired long‑term, we will ship you your own nLab kit. You will be expected to physically build the projects and follow along at home to ensure the editing, pacing, and clarity are perfectly suited for a complete beginner.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & BACKGROUND
Open to both Technical and Non‑Technical applicants: We welcome electronics beginners because our goal is to teach someone from the bottom up, so an editor who is learning along with the footage will have the perfect instinct for when a lesson becomes too dense or confusing. Those with a technical background are also encouraged to apply.
Math Requirement: While you don’t need to know electronics, a solid comfort level with mathematics (at least basic algebra) is required, as our curriculum occasionally involves calculations for components and circuits.
NICE TO HAVE / PREFERRED SKILLS
Experience creating high‑quality tech/app demos or software walkthroughs.
Experience editing educational, instructional, or DIY tutorial content.
Fluency in Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Previous experience making tutorials that have reached thousands of viewers.
PAID TRIAL PROJECT
Finalists will be invited to complete a paid trial project. You will receive raw footage from an upcoming tutorial, a completed tutorial that represents the editing style we are aiming for, existing graphics and assets, and a short creative brief. We care deeply about teaching, pacing, and elegant motion graphics that show off our app. We want to see your editorial judgment in action.
COMPENSATION
Part‑time, $300 flat rate per tutorial.
We are aiming to release 1 tutorial a week (4 per month), for a total of ~50 tutorials.
Brand Assets Established and Provided:
Our visual identity, app graphics, sound design palette, and project templates are already pre‑built and will be provided for the trial. You don’t have to design a brand from scratch—you just get to focus on executing a clean cut and smooth animations.
Paid Trial:
If your portfolio is a fit, we’ll pay you to complete a short trial project with raw footage so we can see your editorial judgment in action.
