StarChefs is hiring: Graphic Designer in New York

StarChefs is looking for a dynamic, full-time print and digital graphic designer to join our small, but mighty team. This role is a hybrid work schedule, in-office from Monday to Thursday in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and remote on Fridays.

For over 30 years, StarChefs has moved the restaurant industry forward with the mission to catalyze industry professionals’ success and give them the tools they need to overcome specific challenges. Through hundreds of in-person tastings each year, StarChefs has published over 40,000 pages of original content, hosted 82 of its Rising Stars Awards Revues and produced 14 national industry-only food and beverage symposiums.

As lead on the design and execution of StarChefs' trade print magazine (printed five times per year) and various web and social media campaigns, you'll have the unique opportunity to make a real impact on the nationwide culinary community (which needs our support now more than ever). The ideal candidate should have original ideas, be open to learning, create impressive designs and have a keen eye for detail. This role will lead the design charge and support creative functions for StarChefs in all editorial and marketing channels.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with editorial and management team to conceptualize, execute and publish the design of StarChefs' Rising Stars Magazine (five times per year)
Design collateral for over twenty culinary events and activations per year, including promotional and on-site collateral for our nationwide Rising Stars Awards series as well as various branded marketing promotions
Assist in the curation of local freelance illustrators for each issue of the Rising Stars Magazine as well provide concept and direction as needed
Support marketing and social media teams with print and digital designs for sponsor-driven imperatives
Conduct press checks on printed pieces (as necessary)

Skills Required:

Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
Strong understanding of design, publishing design, illustration and printing procedures
Holds a BA or BFA in a design-related field (fine art/illustration skills a plus) with post-grad design experience at a media company, magazine or agency. Pre-production and magazine workflow experience an added bonus
Thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Strong time management skills with ability to prioritize and multitask
Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal
Proactive team player who can work both independently and collaboratively
Ability to conjure inspiring ideas and maintain visual brand consistency

StarChefs’ Rising Stars Magazine features over twenty chefs in five rotating cities a year. Featuring our Rising Star Award Winners in each city, along with a series of articles and recipes, 80% of the photography, content and design is produced in-house. Our designer works with all departments to conceptualize and then execute the design. It’s a 96- to 104-page book with national circulation.
