VDC/BIM Designer / Coordinator – Mechanical Piping Systems
$100,000 - $110,000 Base Salary + Full Benefits
Preston Recruitment is currently supporting a leading mechanical contractor delivering some of the most complex industrial, manufacturing, and mission critical construction projects in the United States.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire a VDC/BIM Designer / Coordinator to join their established team in Colorado.
This role is ideally suited to someone who started their career as a Pipefitter in the field and has since moved into BIM, VDC, detailing, or coordination.
If you understand how piping systems are actually installed- not just how they are drawn - this could be an excellent opportunity to join a contractor investing heavily in digital construction, prefabrication, and advanced project delivery.
The Opportunity:
This is not a traditional BIM role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for bridging the gap between design and field execution, ensuring piping systems are coordinated, fabrication-ready, and practical to install before crews arrive on site.
You will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Fabrication Teams, Superintendents, and Field Operations to identify issues early, improve constructability, and drive successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and coordinate detailed BIM models for mechanical piping systems
Produce fabrication and installation drawings using Revit and Navisworks
Identify clashes, constructability concerns, and coordination issues before they impact site operations
Collaborate with field teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
Support prefabrication and modular construction initiatives
Coordinate with engineering, fabrication, project management, and operations teams
Participate in project planning and design review meetings
Ensure models and drawings align with project schedules and installation requirements
What We're Looking For:
Background as a Pipefitter, Steamfitter, Mechanical Foreman, or similar field-based piping professional
Experience transitioning into BIM, VDC, detailing, design, or coordination roles
Strong Revit and Navisworks experience
Understanding of mechanical piping systems and installation methodologies
Ability to identify coordination issues before they become field problems
Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple departments
Passion for improving constructability, efficiency, and project delivery
Why Join?
Stable, long-term pipeline of work
High-profile industrial and mission critical projects
Industry-leading prefabrication and digital construction capabilities
Strong culture focused on innovation and collaboration
Career progression opportunities within a growing organization
Excellent compensation and benefits package
This is a rare opportunity to join a contractor where your field experience is genuinely valued and where you can directly influence how projects are designed, coordinated, fabricated, and installed.
