Graphic Designer Job at CaringKind in New York

CaringKind · New York, NY, USA ·

Job type:
Full Time

CaringKind is looking for a talented, thoughtful Graphic Designer to join its Marketing and Communications team full-time.
The Graphic Designer will help shape how CaringKind shows up visually across campaigns, events, digital communications, print materials, fundraising, programs and public-facing initiatives.
This role is for a designer who can work within an established brand while continuing to make the work feel fresh, current and distinctive.
We are not looking for someone who simply waits to be told where every element should go. We need a designer who can take a clear objective, audience and creative direction and turn it into strong visual work.
At the same time, this person must understand that good brand stewardship sometimes means consistency rather than reinvention.
The ideal candidate combines strong design instincts with speed, organization and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Brand & Visual Design
Apply CaringKind’s visual identity consistently across Marketing and Communications.
Help strengthen and evolve the visual expression of the brand within established standards.
Maintain consistency in typography, imagery, layout, color and overall visual quality.
Identify opportunities to improve how CaringKind presents itself visually.
Develop creative solutions that feel fresh without losing brand recognition.
Help maintain and expand the organization’s visual design system.

Campaign Creative
Develop creative for CaringKind’s major campaigns and organizational initiatives.
Translate campaign strategy and messaging into strong visual concepts.
Create integrated campaign systems that can work across digital, social, print, email, web, advertising and events.
Develop multiple creative approaches when appropriate rather than relying on a single repeated template.
Work directly with the Chief Marketing Officer on campaign creative direction.

Digital Design
Design assets for:
Social media
Digital advertising
Email marketing
Website and landing pages
Digital newsletter
Campaign promotions
Online fundraising
Presentations and digital communications

Create assets in the appropriate sizes and formats for each platform rather than relying on simple resizing.
Print & Publications
Design and prepare:
Brochures
One-pagers
Reports
Invitations
Programs
Sponsorship materials
Fundraising materials
Toolkits
Educational materials
Flyers
Posters
Direct mail
Other organizational collateral

Prepare accurate production-ready files and work with the Marketing Project Coordinator on print specifications and vendor requirements.
Events & Environmental Graphics
Develop creative for CaringKind events and public-facing activations, including:
Event signage
Banners
Step-and-repeats
Stage graphics
Directional signage
Sponsor recognition
Table and display materials
Large-format graphics
Digital screens
Branded event environments

Consider the complete visual experience rather than designing individual pieces in isolation.
Presentations
Design and refine presentation decks for leadership, campaigns, sponsorship opportunities and organizational initiatives.
Create clear visual hierarchy and improve the communication of complex information.
Develop reusable presentation templates where appropriate.

Photography & Image Management
Select imagery that reflects CaringKind’s brand and audiences appropriately.
Crop, retouch and prepare photography for different uses.
Maintain a thoughtful and consistent approach to photography across the organization.
Help identify photography needs for future campaigns and events.
Work with the Marketing team on photo libraries and asset organization.

Templates & Internal Tools
Develop reusable templates for recurring Marketing needs.
Build approved Canva or other templates for appropriate staff use.
Establish templates that create efficiency without making every communication look identical.
Maintain organized source files and editable design assets.

Production
Prepare files correctly for digital and print production.
Understand bleeds, color profiles, resolution, file formats and large-format production requirements.
Review proofs and identify production issues before final printing.
Work with the Marketing Project Coordinator on specifications, deadlines and vendor needs.
Maintain organized working files and final approved creative.

How the Role Works
The Chief Marketing Officer sets overall brand strategy, campaign strategy, messaging and creative direction.
The Graphic Designer brings that direction to life visually and is expected to contribute ideas, challenge weak visual approaches and recommend stronger creative solutions.
The Marketing Associate provides channel requirements, content and digital execution needs.
The Marketing Project Coordinator manages timelines, gathers assets, tracks approvals and coordinates production.
The Webmaster handles technical website implementation.
The designer should not need the CMO to make every individual visual decision. As the designer becomes familiar with CaringKind, they should increasingly be able to interpret the brand and produce strong work independently within established direction.
What We Are Looking For
A strong portfolio demonstrating sophisticated graphic design across multiple formats.
Excellent typography, layout, composition and visual hierarchy.
Strong understanding of brand systems.
Ability to work across digital and print.
Experience developing campaign creative rather than only individual assets.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work quickly while maintaining quality.
Excellent organization and file-management practices.
Ability to manage multiple creative assignments at the same time.
Comfortable receiving direct feedback and iterating quickly.
Confidence recommending a better design solution when appropriate.
Ability to balance creativity with brand consistency.
Understanding of print production.
Good judgment in selecting and using photography.
