Description Grinnell College Libraries seek an early-career librarian or recent MLS graduate to join a collegial team of library faculty as a two-year Research and Instruction Resident Librarian. This new residency, developed within the ACRL Diversity Alliance framework, is focused on library instruction, with additional opportunities to explore roles in digital scholarship, open educational resources, archives and special collections, outreach, and data services, depending on the Resident’s goals and skills. We welcome candidates with diverse experiences, including those who may need reasonable accommodations to thrive in this role. The Resident will engage students, faculty, and staff colleagues in a variety of collaborative roles, including providing one-on-one consultations, teaching research literacy classes, supporting undergraduate research, and providing outreach to academic departments and concentrations. The Resident Librarian will be a non-tenure track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank.
We offer comprehensive relocation assistance and professional development opportunities to support new and early-career librarians. The Resident will be offered structured mentoring as part of the campus-wide new faculty cohort; library-based, residency-specific mentoring for the length of the appointment, dedicated research time, and exceptional opportunity for creativity in the practice of librarianship, pedagogy, and scholarship.
We encourage recent graduates to apply. We also encourage applications from individuals with nontraditional paths into librarianship and those who have taken career breaks. The salary range is $65,000 or higher, depending on qualifications.

Comfort using library technologies and teaching undergraduate research strategies.
Interest in the research and instructional responsibilities of the position and advancing the Libraries’ foundational commitment to research education.
Effective communication skills, including oral and written formats.
Flexibility, self-motivation, and a strong preference for fostering inclusive, collaborative environments that prioritize team-oriented solutions and innovative library services.
Experience with or a strong interest in one or more of the following: instruction, scholarly communication, digital humanities tools/methods, data services, special collections and archives, outreach, and/or digitization/digital preservation.
Ability to be effective and inclusive in working with a diverse campus community that makes heavy demands on library services.
