Ben & Jerry’s Donates Unused Twitter Characters to Fair Trade

With May 14 marking World Fair Trade Day, socially conscious ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s is using Twitter to give publicity to the cause.

If you’re not the obsessive type who must hit your 140-character limit with every tweet, you qualify to use Ben & Jerry’s collaboration with Amalgamated, “Fair Tweets.” It’s pretty simple, and it goes to advertise a program that helps workers around the world receive fair treatment and pay from their employers. All you have to do is visit the Fair Tweets website, type any potential tweet in the space provided, and then Ben & Jerry’s automatically fills in any unused characters with a link to an article about the benefits of fair trade. Maybe you won’t feel so bad about yourself next time you down a pint of Cherry Garcia in one sitting.
