New York Comic Con Random News Round-Up

New York Comic Con took place over the course of a 3-day weekend and was jam-packed with events, panels, and screenings. This GalleyCat correspondent perked her ears for bits of news throughout the convention:

1.  R&B artist Ne-Yo received the support of comic book legend Stan Lee for a comic he created and wrote entitled Libra Scale.

2. As we noted, The Archie series’ first gay character, Kevin Keller will have his own stand alone 4-book series. His debut appearance in Veronica issue #202 demanded for a re-printing and it was only released on September 1st 2010.

3. Melissa de la CruzBlue Bloods will be adapted into graphic novel format and published by Disney’s Hyperion. Editor Christian Trimmer jokingly said, “Blue Bloods is ‘Gossip Girl‘ meets ‘Twilight.’”

4. Longtime Batman films producer Michael Uslan will be releasing his autobiography The Boy Who Loved Batman in 2011 published by Chronicle Books.

5. Vampire Diaries screenwriter Kevin Williamson only read the first book in L.J. Smith‘s series. He said the books provide the basic premise, but the show is only loosely based on the novel for “long-term big picture reasons.”

6. Comic book-based television series The Walking Dead hosted a contest for a viewers of its Halloween premiere episode to win a walk-on zombie role.

7. Filmmaker M. Night Shamalyan made his first convention appearance at New York Comic Con this year,  revealing that he is a big fan of The Hulk.

8.  Hachette’s Yen Press has adapted Cecily von Ziegesar‘s Gossip Girl series into graphic novel format.

9.  Oscar nominated animation film The Secret of Kells will include a limited edition graphic novel exclusively made to accompany the Blu-ray release.

10. According to Top Cow publisher Filip Sablik, the combined New York Comic Con and New York Anime Festival attendance increased by 30%.
