This is a non-exempt (hourly) position. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job.
The Myers Park Library serves a close-knit community in Charlotte’s historic Myers Park neighborhood, located near Uptown Charlotte and Queens University. As the city’s oldest library, it has long been a cherished institution for many customers, some of whom have frequented the branch since childhood. This location offers specialized, high-level research assistance—particularly for college students and genealogy enthusiasts. Additionally, the Myers Park Branch is trusted by its customers for daily Readers’ Advisory services and personalized technology support.
The Myers Park Library is committed to providing exemplary service to all customers through technology, computer assistance, research, and readers’ advisory from a single service desk. The Library Associate serves as a regular manager-on-duty.
The Library Associate works within the branch team to create a welcoming and engaging environment. The Library Associate leads age-appropriate programs for emerging adults, adults and seniors. This position represents the library in the community with various area partners. The Library Associate participates in systemwide teams and works collaboratively with staff in Adult Services. Demonstrated success in building and sustaining collaborative partnerships with both the library community and external organizations, fostering positive and lasting relationships with patrons and community stakeholders. Supervisory skills are highly desirable. The incumbent will also be responsible for circulation responsibilities including but not limited to attending the monthly Access Services Manager meeting, staffing a busy information desk, and serving customers of all ages.
Schedule
Includes a minimum of one evening shift per week and a rotating weekend schedule.

Position Summary
Perform professional and technical library work in one or more specific library programs such as Adult, Teens, Youth, Reference Services, or Library Systems Administration. The Library Associate delivers a high level of quality library services ensuring the provision of value-added experiences for all customers.
Essential Functions
- Programming for adults ages 18 and up
- Prepare monthly program reports and statistics
- Build and maintain relationships with outreach sites and partnerships
- Provide research assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Provide service desk coverage
- Maintain library’s collection of materials including repairs, shelving, and marketing
- Promote and markets library’s programs, collaborating with Marketing and Communication to generate flyers and materials pertaining to programs
- Create and maintain attractive and appropriate bulletin boards and displays
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of two years of library, retail, computer, or customer service experience.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual - Spanish communication skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)
- Experience programming for adults
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: Alpha-numeric sorting systems, various library systems, telephone etiquette.
Skills: Strong technology adeptness, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, excellent time management skills with attention to detail.

Computer Skills
Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
