DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Cal Poly Maritime Academy Library invites applications for a pool of part‑time librarians as needed. Responsibilities may include any combination of the following:

Supporting library instruction and teaching library workshops.

Providing reference services through varied modalities – in person, email, chat, and Zoom.

Representing the library at campus‑wide outreach events.

Creating and updating online resources, including webpages, guides, and tutorials.

PLEASE NOTE:

Appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Librarian.

Appointments from the part‑time pool are temporary, so applicants must be available on very short notice.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a non‑tenure‑track position in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Responsibilities include:

Supporting library instruction and teaching library workshops.

Providing reference services through varied modalities – in person, email, chat, and Zoom.

Representing the library at campus‑wide outreach events.

Creating and updating online resources, including webpages, guides, and tutorials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

MLS/MLIS from an ALA‑accredited program or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.

Experience providing reference, instruction, or outreach services to a diverse population.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially in a team setting.

Demonstrated competency working with computer applications and the ability to learn new software applications.

Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate to a variety of stakeholders.

Ability to interact sensitively and effectively in a multi‑cultural environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Three or more years of relevant experience.

Experience in or potential for developing and leading engaging library‑related instruction sessions.

Experience in promoting library‑related programs.

Experience working in an academic library.

SALARY COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience. The full‑time classification salary range for the position is:

Anticipated pro‑rated monthly hiring range based on hours (10–20 per week) and experience: $1,572–$3,144.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The typical classroom and office environment is in a two‑story building with elevator access.

ELIGIBILITY TO WORK:

Applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States within three days from the date of hire.

A background check investigation (including a criminal records check) is required prior to employment.
