Duties

Operate an electronic checkout system, make change, and verify change funds during a shift.

Manage change machines and ensure proper amounts of cash and coins are available.

Assist customers by answering questions about prices, identification, and item location.

Count cash and negotiable instruments to prepare an accountability report.

Assist self‑checkout registers and help customers process purchases correctly.

Change register tape, and clear routine equipment and scanning jams on registers.

Qualifications Applicants must meet Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 2091 and the following requirements:

Experience:

Six (6) months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or related work indicating the ability to perform duties.

Education:

One (1) full year of education above high school (transcripts required).

Combination:

Calculate as (experience months ÷ 6) + (semester hours ÷ 30). A total of 100% meets the minimum qualifications.

Physical requirements:

Stand for prolonged periods; lift up to 25 pounds independently and occasionally more with assistance.

Competencies evaluated in the questionnaire:

Communications, Register Operations, Store Operations.

Positions filled under DoD Direct Hire Authority (DHA).

Minimum age generally 18 years.

Retired military service members cannot be appointed within 180 days of retirement.
