U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the U.S.

Federal employees whose job, agency or department was eliminated and are eligible for priority over other applicants.

Duties

Operate an electronic checkout system, make change, and verify the change fund and amount of currency received during an assigned shift.

Manage change machines and ensure proper amounts of cash and coins are available.

Assist customers by answering questions concerning prices, identification, and location of items.

Count cash and negotiable instruments to prepare an accountability report.

Manage the self‑checkout registers and assist customers in correct processing of their purchases.

Change register tape, clear routine equipment, and resolve scanning jams on registers.

Conditions of Employment

Qualifications Experience : Six (6) months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for this position.

OR

Education : One (1) full year of education above high school. Transcripts required if relying on education.

OR

Combination of experience and education : Calculate the combined percentage: (experience months ÷ 6) + (semester hours ÷ 30). A total of 100% qualifies.

Physical Requirements: Stand for prolonged periods. Lift up to 25 pounds independently and occasionally over 25 pounds with assistance.

Competencies: Communications, Register Operations, Store Operations.

Overtime: Occasional.

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Nonexempt.

Work Environment: May include temperature changes due to continuous opening and closing of outside doors.

Education Foreign education may be qualifying if evaluated by an accredited U.S. institution. Transcripts and equivalency evaluations must be in English or have English translation.

Salary range at announcement includes only GS base; local pay varies.

Upon first appointment to a civilian position, you are entitled to Step 1 of the grade chosen.
