Diesel Mechanic Trainee – Entry Level
Ryder Supply Chain Solutions is hiring a Permanent Full‑time Diesel Technician Trainee in East Syracuse, NY. This entry‑level role requires no prior experience and offers on‑the‑job paid training.
Position Summary The trainee will work 3 pm–11:30 pm Monday through Friday. Hourly pay is $21.50. While training, trainees will learn all aspects of diesel engine maintenance, fuel management, vehicle inspection, and shop safety procedures.
Responsibilities
Move heavy‑duty vehicles between yard, wash bay, service shop, and rental shop.
Wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment.
Fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles, record fuel activity, maintain fuel and DEF inventories.
Perform multi‑point inspections of inbound units (tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, etc.).
Maintain the fuel island to Six‑Sigma standards and perform minor facility maintenance.
Complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements (hand‑held, environmental safety, preventive maintenance, HD electrical, etc.).
Carry out other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Age 18 or older.
Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn diesel engine maintenance.
Proficiency in English written and verbal communication.
Demonstrated customer‑service skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems independently or as part of a team.
Good time‑management, priority‑setting, and accountability.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Valid commercial driver’s license (Class A) preferred.
Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, and road test within 6 months of hire.
