Account Specialist – HVAC Programs
Location: Columbia, MD (Hybrid – Home Office with Occasional Local Travel)
This hybrid position requires in‑office presence 1–2 days per week, access to reliable transportation for local travel, and quarterly client site travel.

Description ICF is currently seeking an Account Specialist to support our energy efficiency program implementation in Maryland. The successful candidate will manage a pipeline of new and existing customers and trade allies to ensure our programs meet participation goals and will support the internal operations of the programs.
Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with major local, national, and regional distributors, suppliers, and manufacturers to support their participation in the programs
Cultivate and develop new relationships and partnerships with trade allies and professional organizations to ensure program awareness and adoption
Maintain strong ongoing communications with participants and other stakeholders to assess their needs and receive feedback on their experience with the program
Prepare and present targeted presentations and promote program awareness at trade shows, trade organization events, supply house counter days, ride‑alongs, and other venues
Represent the program at trade shows and other events
Manage distributor‑allocated budgets and engage in proactive conversations about budget availability
Provide clear guidance to distributors and their contractors on program requirements
Prepare ongoing status reports documenting performance and activities toward program goals, participation, and pipeline management
Review and analyze QA/QC data reported to the client
Support internal operations and management of the programs, including reporting, application review, forecasting, marketing development, and client support
What We Need You To Have (minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in Energy, Business Administration, Communications, Environmental Studies, or related field (a year of experience can substitute one year of education)
2+ years of experience in successful energy efficiency opportunities, with specific expertise in HVAC contractors, distributors, or retail customers highly preferred
Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel)
2+ years of experience developing and/or implementing data collection, tracking, and reporting processes (e.g., CRM)
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check
Preferred Skills/Experience
Strong success in an outside sales role and/or business development
Strong follow‑up and ability to close sales
Energy efficiency background with solid knowledge of building mechanical systems or commercial lighting
Economic analysis and familiarity with DSM program planning and evaluation
Utility experience and understanding of DSM program implementation
