Job Description Montgomery Parks seeks a graduate or undergraduate level Marketing & Public Affairs Intern in the Marketing Section of the Public Affairs & Community Partnerships (PACP) Division to assist, handle, and produce marketing collateral for both print and digital outlets including copy, graphics, photography, and potentially videography. In addition, the intern will work on updating kiosks and signage throughout parks. The Marketing & Public Affairs Intern will be provided the opportunity to work alongside specialists producing and managing a variety of marketing projects including structural and creative updates to webpages, graphic design, and social media content creation and engagement under the supervision of Marketing Section staff.

Examples of Important Duties

Edit and produce (independently) digital newsletters, social media content, and website content.

Assist with database tagging of photography and web page amenities.

Assist with graphic design of marketing materials including web banners and flyers that follow brand standards guidelines.

Provide photography/videography support at parks programs, facilities or amenities.

Assist with updating park kiosks and our database of signage throughout parks.

Utilize website maintenance tools to improve quality of content on web pages.

Attend in-house trainings and presentations to assist marketing team on storytelling opportunities.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Background and interest in marketing, communications, public affairs, writing, graphic design, social media, photography, videography, digital advertising including Facebook, Google Ads, and/or digital newsletter.

Ability to complete tasks both independently under minimal supervision and as part of a team, paying attention to details, and working within design guidelines and deadlines.

Skilled in editing websites in WordPress content management system or something similar.

General computer skills and advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel, required.

Develop marketing plans; previous experience preferred.

Requirements

Position will be filled at either the undergraduate (Intern I, pay rate $16.50-19/hr.) or graduate (Intern II, pay rate $18-21/hr.) level, dependent upon education and experience.

Be willing to undergo and successfully pass a background screening and follow M-NCPPC/Montgomery Parks protocols and procedures.

Be able to work under arduous field conditions to include walking significant distances.

Willingness to commit to a pre-arranged schedule up to 250 hours over the course of 10 weeks.

Minimum age: 18 years old.

Orientation to the Department of Parks and the Public Affairs & Community Partnerships Division will be provided by staff. Specific project requirements will be discussed with supervisory staff members. Attendance and successful completion of in-house trainings, including an online Defensive Driving course.
