Overview
Burlington Golf Club is seeking a motivated and career driven individual to join our team as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a turf professional to gain hands on experience in golf course management while contributing to several exciting course improvement projects. Burlington Golf Club is a private 18 hole facility located in southeast Iowa and is historically known as the oldest golf club west of the Mississippi River. The club has hosted numerous IGA and IWGA events and maintains a strong commitment to continuous improvement of the golf course. The club is currently executing a long range improvement plan that includes new tee complex construction, implementation of a tree species plan, infrastructure improvements, and a recently completed bunker renovation project. The golf course features bentgrass/poa annua playing surfaces on greens, tees, and fairways, providing valuable experience managing cool season turf at a high level. Position Overview
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and management team to help oversee the daily operations of the golf course maintenance department. This role provides leadership development through crew supervision, agronomic program implementation, and participation in course improvement projects. The successful candidate will gain experience in: Crew leadership and staff development Agronomic planning and implementation Golf course construction and renovation projects Equipment and maintenance management Budgeting and operational planning Responsibilities
Assist with planning and organizing daily maintenance schedules Train, supervise, and lead maintenance staff Assist with golf course construction and improvement projects Apply fertilizers and plant protectants as directed Monitor course conditions and identify turfgrass disease or stress Maintain accurate pesticide and fertilizer application records Assist with daily course setup and tournament preparation Coordinate maintenance activities around play and club events Assist with reel grinding and equipment maintenance during the season and offseason Assist with winter operations including snow removal Promote safe work practices and proper equipment use among staff Education and Experience
2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred Previous golf course maintenance experience is beneficial but not required Recent graduates with a strong work ethic and desire to learn are encouraged to apply Qualifications
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills Ability to maintain detailed records and communicate effectively Strong problem solving and critical thinking ability Ability to obtain an Iowa Pesticide Applicator’s License Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and varying weather conditions Valid driver’s license Positive attitude and strong work ethic
