The Executive Pathways Program is a paid summer internship (June – August) for college students to explore a rewarding career in public service. What you can expect during your internship:
Hands‑on experience impacting individuals and processes within a large human service agency
Opportunity to meet (virtually and in-person) to network with other state employees
Attend virtual workshops focused on your professional development
Give back to the communities DHS serves through volunteerism
Within the Minnesota Department of Human Services, Office of the Inspector General, Digital Services, Analytics & Insights Division, we are working to improve how social service providers apply for and manage their licenses and programs online. Moving from paper‑based processes to digital services can make State processes more transparent and improve data collection. However, for providers who are less familiar with technology, this shift can create challenges in starting and managing their programs. With social services facing workforce shortages, addressing these barriers is essential. The
Digital Inclusion Intern
will conduct research and support the development of strategies to help providers improve technology skills, with a focus on language access and equitable engagement. The ideal candidate is interested in technology literacy, language access, equitable community engagement, and improving digital service delivery for social service providers.
Some responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct qualitative and quantitative research
Coordinate equitable community engagement activities
Analyze findings and generate recommendation reports and presentations
Support projects that improve digital access and service delivery
Minimum Qualifications To be eligible for an internship, you must meet the following requirements:
Must be a student at an accredited educational institution; or recently graduated December 2025 or May 2026
Excellent human relation and communication skills sufficient to represent the position and Division in a professional, efficient, and clear manner
Ability to work independently and in a team setting
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to a culture of inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred majors include: graphic design, interaction design, human‑computer interaction, arts, design or user experience, web design and development, psychology, behavioral science, sociology, cognitive science, communications, technical writing, communications or public relations, computer science, information systems or technology management, data science, government administration, public administration, public policy, social work, human services, community development, urban studies/urban planning, public health, cultural studies, instructional design, adult learning or organizational learning
Knowledge of/expertise in language access, technology literacy, workforce development, equitable community engagement
Qualitative and quantitative research skills
Preferred bilingual (English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali)
Additional Requirements
Must be in academic years of sophomore, junior, or senior (Graduate students allowed)
Must provide unofficial transcript to show proof of school enrollment
Must be willing to reside in Minnesota for the duration of internship
Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.
This position requires successful completion of the following: It is the policy of the Department of Human Services that the individual selected for this position successfully complete a background investigation prior to employment, including the following components:
