Responsibilities
Empowers operational ownership at the campus level while maintaining system standardization and quality.
Fosters a culture of excellence through clinical alignment on best practices.
Contributes to and implements strategic plans and goals throughout the laboratory service line within the division.
Identifies strategic synergies and facilitates cross‑functional business focus, planning, and data analysis to support growth opportunities and strategic initiatives.
Follows and enforces appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.
Leads and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety.
Acts as a liaison between campus and laboratory executive leaders to ensure collaboration across multiple disciplines.
Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
Exercises independent decision‑making processes to identify, plan, and execute goals.
Oversees laboratory business at assigned facilities, including financial oversight in budgetary planning, capital acquisition, and financial review.
Directs and over‑sees operations of assigned campus laboratories in all specialties, including Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion, Microbiology, and Pathology.
Collaborates with physician leadership to lead the clinical team in achieving quality care and patient satisfaction.
Promotes communication and collaboration of interdisciplinary processes focusing on safety and best‑practice outcomes.
Contributes to unity and standardization across the organization to ensure consistency in patient care, experience, and quality.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong organization skills, with exceptional attention to detail. [Required]
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. [Required]
Effective oral and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex information in understandable terms to all levels of staff, including the ability to coordinate and spearhead meetings and serve as a speaker with good presentation skills. [Required]
Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to create Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. [Required]
Knowledgeable in the use of electronic patient medical records. [Required]
Ability to work in a matrix‑management environment to achieve organizational goals. [Required]
Interpersonal skills necessary to provide effective leadership for supervisory, technical, and support personnel, and to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with various departments. [Required]
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. [Required]
Demonstrates positive communication skills and standards of behaviors, with the ability to interact with the public and staff at all levels. [Required]
In‑depth understanding of laboratory operations, medical testing procedures, and administration. [Preferred]
Knowledge of Cerner/EPIC systems. [Preferred]
Education
Bachelor's [Required]
Master's [Preferred]
Field of Study
Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution or bachelor's degree equivalency with 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include: 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology; and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination; and have a laboratory training program that includes: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES or the CAAHEP (this training may be included in the 6 semester hours listed above); or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs testing or successful completion of at least a 5‑week official US military medical laboratory procedures training course and currently hold or have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of medical laboratory specialist (laboratory technician); or qualified and served as high complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995 in a CLIA‑certified laboratory as of December 28, 224, and have done so continuously since December 28, 2024. [Required]
Work Experience
3+ years of laboratory leadership, preferably in an acute healthcare setting [Required]
5+ years of laboratory experience [Required]
