Sales Director - NY or Bay Area Hybrid- $350-400k OTE + EQUITY

Location: NYC (preferred) or SF Bay Area

Compensation: Base $200K-$240K | OTE $350K-$400K + Equity

Stage: ~$4M ARR, targeting $20M+ within 24 months

Team: Lead a growing team of AEs (currently 3) in a product-led SaaS business within a profitable tech company

Space: Executive Relationship Intelligence Software

Executive Summary: Founding Sales Leader role with autonomy to build and scale revenue in a startup within an established group, backed by a 20+ year CEO.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own GTM strategy, hiring, revenue delivery and forecasting as we scale to $20M+ ARR.
  • Initially carry a personal quota (~10 key accounts) to learn the business and win strategies.
  • Manage and grow a team of 3 ICs and 1 CSM; scale to 7+ AEs within 12 months to align with 2-year revenue goals.
  • Build top-of-funnel pipeline using relationships, strategic outbound, and GTM tactics with marketing and group support.
  • Design comp plans, define target verticals, and build processes around outreach, pipeline review, and deal strategy.
  • Sell to senior stakeholders in RevOps, Marketing, Legal, and Finance (mid-market and enterprise focus).
  • Collaborate with the CEO to iterate pricing strategy and define GTM segmentation.

Target Markets & Sales Motion

  • Core verticals include: Professional Services, Technology, Financial Services, and Advisory/Consulting.
  • Deal sizes range from $30K-$100K+, with some strategic accounts above $200K.
  • Typical sales cycle is 6–12 weeks, multi-threaded and relationship-driven.
  • Selling is a mix of outbound, referrals, and executive network-led intros—account-based approach.

Success Metrics

  • Build a repeatable pipeline generation and deal conversion engine; first-year impact as the major lever for growth.
  • First 3 months: hire 2 additional AEs, establish pipeline strategy, and refine value proposition with strong demos.
  • By 6 months: ramp initial reps, hire second round of AEs, maintain revenue progression with healthy pipeline.
  • By 12 months: on track for $6M+ ARR; establish hiring pipeline to scale to a 7+ person high-performance team; embed repeatable processes for hiring, onboarding, and sales enablement.

This is not a role for someone who needs a polished machine to execute within. It’s for someone who thrives as an early-stage leader building around them and shaping a growth engine.

  • You’ve taken a product from $2M-$20M+ and still enjoy selling yourself.
  • You build structure as you go—coaching reps, setting up deal reviews, building comp plans.
  • You solve problems in scrappy environments and are resourceful.
  • You’ve sold to functional executives (RevOps, Legal, Marketing) and can influence senior stakeholders.
  • You blend commercial instincts with curiosity and high EQ to guide GTM in the broader business.

Red flags:

  • You rely heavily on brand equity and haven’t operated in the $2M-$20M range.
  • You haven’t closed deals recently and prefer strategy to execution.
  • You’re more comfortable managing managers than leading from the front with front-line teams.
