We're Hiring: Controller / Director of Finance | Washington, DC (HYBRID)

We are assisting a highly respected, established boutique law firm who is seeking a Director of Finance to lead and manage its accounting operations with strategic insight and operational excellence.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer & Treasurer

What You’ll Do

In this leadership role, you will:

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations including AP, AR, payroll, billing, and general ledger management
• Lead financial planning, reporting, and monthly/annual closings
• Present financials to management and identify profitability opportunities
• Supervise and mentor the accounting team (AP, Payroll, Billing, AR)
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial analysis
• Administer the firm’s accounting system and drive process improvements
• Coordinate tax filings and regulatory compliance with external CPAs

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with leadership responsibilities
• Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred
• Deep understanding of cash-based accounting systems
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Experience with benefit plan administration and 401(k) contribution analysis
• A hands-on, collaborative approach to financial leadership
• Passion for continuous improvement and internal control integrity
