Overview
Our client, a leading bulge bracket investment bank with a global credit platform, is seeking a Corporate and Private Credit Senior Portfolio Management professional. This individual will oversee portfolio level performance, credit quality, and risk management across a diversified book of private credit and corporate lending exposures. The role integrates active portfolio management with front end responsibilities including originations support, syndications engagement, structuring input, and negotiation of ongoing credit matters.
The ideal candidate brings strong analytical judgment, a solutions driven mindset, and deep familiarity with private credit markets, leveraged finance structures, and institutional investor expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Management and Credit Oversight
- Manage a portfolio of corporate and private credit transactions, ensuring credit quality, covenant compliance, and ongoing risk monitoring.
- Review financial performance, operational updates, liquidity metrics, and business trends for existing borrowers.
- Conduct quarterly and annual credit reviews including internal rating assessments, early warning indicators, and downside scenario analyses.
- Lead amendment processes, waivers, repricing events, and restructuring discussions as needed.
- Prepare internal memoranda, monitoring reports, and risk presentations for senior leadership and credit committees.
Originations Support and Underwriting
- Partner with originations and sector teams to evaluate new private credit opportunities.
- Contribute to underwriting, structuring, diligence coordination, and internal approval processes for new financings.
- Provide portfolio insights to inform leverage levels, covenant structures, pricing, and risk mitigants for new deals.
- Participate in client meetings, diligence sessions, and relationship development where appropriate.
Syndications and Investor Engagement
- Collaborate with the capital markets and syndications team on investor outreach, lender education, and positioning of transactions.
- Support lender Q&A, credit discussions, management presentation preparation, and follow up communications.
- Maintain working relationships with private credit funds, direct lenders, insurance companies, BDCs, CLO managers, and other institutional investors.
- Track investor feedback and market trends to help shape future structures and portfolio strategy.
Structuring, Negotiations, and Execution
- Negotiate amendments, covenant resets, waivers, collateral packages, intercreditor matters, and other credit documentation changes.
- Partner with legal, risk, sector coverage, and internal operations teams to ensure seamless and accurate execution.
- Support structuring efforts for complex or bespoke financing solutions involving unitranche, mezzanine, PIK, preferred equity, or hybrid capital elements.
- Engage proactively with borrowers on performance, liquidity planning, and operational risk matters.
Market Intelligence and Strategic Contribution
- Stay current on private credit market dynamics including pricing trends, leverage norms, covenant behavior, and sector specific risks.
- Provide portfolio level insights to senior leadership to inform capital allocation, risk appetite, and product strategy.
- Contribute to team development, process improvements, and junior banker mentorship within the portfolio management and credit organization.
Qualifications
- Eight or more years of experience in private credit, leveraged finance, corporate banking, credit portfolio management, or direct lending within a top tier investment bank or institutional lending platform.
- Strong understanding of credit underwriting, financial analysis, and loan structuring for middle market and upper middle market borrowers.
- Experience managing a portfolio of corporate loans or private credit exposures with demonstrated attention to credit quality and risk mitigation.
- Familiarity with originations processes, syndications, investor engagement, and ongoing credit negotiations.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and client facing skills.
- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree or credit training preferred.
