Fashion Brand is seeking an Associate Technical Designer to support the technical execution of Women’s Activewear & Sportswear from initial development through production. This role focuses heavily on knits and performance fabrics across missy, plus, and curvy size ranges.

About the Role The Associate Technical Designer will partner closely with Senior Technical Design, Design, Production, and Merchandising to ensure consistent fit, accurate specs, and high-quality construction that aligns with brand standards and calendar deadlines.
Responsibilities Participate in and help lead fit sessions for women’s activewear, performance, and sportswear; capture fit notes and drive follow-up with cross-functional partners. Measure, evaluate, and compare proto, fit, and pre-production samples to tech packs, ensuring consistency in fit, balance, grading, and overall workmanship. Create, update, and maintain detailed spec packs, including measurement charts, construction details, stitch types, and labeling/trim placements. Draft clear, concise fit comments and construction revisions for vendors and factories, ensuring direction is technically sound and actionable. Track samples across all development and production milestones, coordinating with internal teams and vendors to support on-time fit reviews and approvals. Troubleshoot and support resolution of fit, grading, and construction issues, with a strong focus on knit and performance fabric considerations such as stretch, recovery, and durability. Partner with Production to confirm garments meet quality, performance, and cost targets prior to final approval. Use Excel as the primary tool for building and maintaining spec sheets, measurement charts, and style tracking logs; assist with Illustrator-based callouts and line art as needed. Maintain organized digital and physical records of specs, fit comments, samples, and approvals to support transparency and traceability.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred in Fashion Design, Technical Design, Patternmaking, or a related discipline. Approximately 5–8+ years of technical design experience in women’s apparel, with strong preference for activewear, performance, and sportswear. Hands-on experience working with knit and performance fabrics, and a strong understanding of stretch, recovery, and movement-focused garment behavior. Advanced Excel skills required (spec creation, measurement charts, style tracking, and data organization). Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is a plus (for technical sketches, callouts, and diagramming construction details). Solid knowledge of women’s garment construction, grading, and fit standards, including experience fitting plus and curvy bodies. Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple styles, seasons, and deadlines. xsgimln Clear written and verbal communication skills for fit comments, cross-functional communication, and vendor correspondence. Ability and willingness to work onsite in New York City, Monday–Friday, 9:00am–6:00pm.
Pay range and compensation package Salary: Up to $85,000 (depending on experience)
