Senior Director, Personalization

Sam's Club, Bentonville, AR, United States

Overview

Sam’s Club is building enterprise personalization as a core growth engine — not as a marketing tactic, but as a scalable, data-driven decisioning capability that powers how we engage, serve, and grow our members across every touchpoint. As Senior Director, Personalization, you will own the end-to-end personalization value chain — from defining the enterprise vision and unified roadmap, to translating member understanding into Next Best Action (NBA) logic, to institutionalizing a closed-loop measurement system that continuously improves member and business outcomes. Reporting to the Group Director, Data Science - Experience Insights and Transformation, you will operate as the enterprise quarterback for personalization across Marketing, In-Club, eCommerce, Membership, and Operations. This role requires executive presence, deep personalization expertise, strong data fluency, and the ability to influence at the C-suite level. This is an enterprise capability-building role — benchmarking against top industry leaders and unlocking next-generation, agentic personalization capabilities delivered at scale. Responsibilities

Set the Enterprise Personalization Vision & Unified Roadmap: define why personalization matters for Sam’s Club and where it creates the greatest member and enterprise value; build and align a unified, cross-channel roadmap spanning in-club, digital, marketing, and membership; prioritize journeys and use cases that drive measurable outcomes (growth, retention, Plus penetration, omnichannel engagement, lifetime value); align stakeholders on sequencing, tradeoffs, and investment priorities; translate member insights into scalable decisioning. Define the enterprise member understanding foundation — signals, features, behaviors, and predictive inputs required to power personalization; partner with Business Insights, Data Science, AI, and Membership teams to elevate data structure, synthesis, and activation; translate behavioral hypotheses into an insights agenda that fuels NBA use cases; own the definition and evolution of Next Best Action logic (rules + ML + prioritization frameworks); establish enterprise guardrails (eligibility, offer economics, fairness, fatigue, value exchange) to protect long-term member trust. Institutionalize Causal Measurement & Learning: design and implement the enterprise personalization measurement framework; set standards for experimentation (A/B testing, holdouts, causal inference) that balance speed with rigor; ensure personalization initiatives are measurable, repeatable, and scalable beyond a single journey or channel; build closed-loop feedback systems to refine decisioning logic based on performance data; translate complex insights into clear, executive-ready narratives for C-suite leadership. Unlock Next-Generation & Agentic Capabilities: evaluate third-party and Walmart enterprise capabilities to determine best-fit solutions for scaling personalization; identify and unlock next-generation personalization capabilities that enable real-time, adaptive, and increasingly agentic member experiences; benchmark against industry leaders to ensure Sam’s Club is building world-class personalization infrastructure; ensure solutions are enterprise-ready and scalable across millions of members. Lead Through Influence & Enterprise Collaboration: serve as the enterprise thought leader and strategic advisor on personalization; deliver executive-level presentations and influence investment decisions at the C-suite level; drive cross-functional execution across Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, Membership, eCommerce, Data & Analytics, and Technology; champion collaboration and operating rhythms to mobilize partners and drive outcomes; develop and mentor your team while elevating personalization literacy across the enterprise. Pilot, governance, and culture: lead with integrity and drive change management in a complex, enterprise environment. What You’ll Bring

Data & Insights Fluency: strong background in analytics, experimentation, and causal inference; ability to translate complex data into actionable strategic direction; experience partnering with Data Science and AI teams to operationalize predictive models at scale; ability to architect scalable insight frameworks that power enterprise decisioning. Executive Influence & Communication: executive presence with experience delivering to C-suite stakeholders; exceptional storytelling skills — able to translate technical concepts into strategic business narratives; experience aligning cross-functional enterprise stakeholders around a unified roadmap. Scaling & Operating at Enterprise Level: experience delivering personalization at scale across multiple channels and large member bases; ability to evaluate third-party technology ecosystems and enterprise capabilities; proven ability to mobilize cross-functional partners.
