Benefits Specialist Location: Chicago or Houston office.

Position Overview The Benefits Specialist manages and administers our comprehensive benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑ and long‑term disability, 401(k), and other ancillary plans. The role serves as the subject matter expert, primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries, and ensures compliance with legal requirements.

Responsibilities

Serve as the benefits subject matter expert and primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries and issues.

Analyze benefits data and trends to make informed recommendations for improvements.

Conduct regular audits of benefits programs to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.

Respond to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, enrollments, status changes, and general inquiries.

Interpret FMLA, ADA, and state leave implications related to leaves of absence and disabilities.

Ensure compliance with and administer COBRA and ACA.

Maintain the benefit administration system, conduct system audits, and ensure proper delivery of benefit information to providers.

Manage the system’s file feed process with benefit vendors, resolving any issues.

Process and administer all leave‑of‑absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation.

Respond to 401(k) inquiries regarding enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts.

Coordinate the open enrollment process, including system configuration, testing, communication, and post‑enrollment cleanup/analytics.

Assist with new‑hire orientations.

Administer tuition/training reimbursement and wellness allowance programs.

Provide necessary reports as requested.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree in HR or a related field; experience or training can substitute for the education.

Two to five years of experience in HR and/or benefits administration.

Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field.

HRIS knowledge, including Oracle and bswift.

SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, or CEBS certification.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Compensation The salary range for this role is $75,000 to $85,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, certifications, and geographic location.
