Director of Innovation (Brentwood)
Compassus, Brentwood, TN, United States
Position Summary:
This is a rare, high-exposure opportunity for an exceptionally talented early-career professional ready to operate at the highest levels of a nationwide home-based care delivery company. The role is comprised of two key focus areas: CEO-level leadership and enterprise AI transformation. First, this is a “Chief of Staff in training” role, and from the beginning will present in board meetings, PE sponsor engagements, and will contribute to major strategic decisions by serving as a trusted extension of the CEO’s office, gaining unparalleled visibility into how a complex organization operates. Second, this role will directly support the SVP of Innovation & Operational Excellence (current Chief of Staff) on Compassus’ enterprise AI agenda by deploying, scaling, and governing AI solutions across the enterprise. The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, leads through influence, rapidly becomes “the expert” in areas they own, communicates complex ideas in simple ways, and can work autonomously to solve problems and drive initiatives forward. This is not a passive learning role. You will own real work, deliver real results, and be developed into the future Chief of Staff to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
AI Transformation: Partner with the SVP of Innovation & Operational Excellence to identify and drive Compassus’s enterprise AI strategy across a complex, multi-site healthcare organization. Spearhead new AI initiatives end-to-end: build business cases, manage pilots, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, and translate ambiguous opportunities into structured, executable plans. Monitor and manage existing AI deployments, tracking adoption, performance, and value realization; serve as the go-to internal expert on enterprise tools. Continuously scan the AI landscape to surface emerging tools, use cases, and technologies; distill findings into actionable recommendations for senior leadership. Establish and maintain AI governance frameworks, including usage policies, risk assessments, and oversight processes to ensure responsible and compliant deployment.
Chief of Staff: Serve as Chief of Staff in training to the CEO and shadow, support, and progressively own CoS responsibilities, developing into the full role over time. Prepare for and help lead Board of Directors meetings and PE sponsor engagements: own materials, set agendas, manage narrative, and drive pre/post-meeting follow-through. Coordinate the executive leadership team’s operating rhythm — facilitating priorities, tracking decisions, and ensuring accountability across strategic initiatives. Translate complex ideas into clear narratives across formats: PowerPoint decks, written memos / emails, and in-person presentation to senior and board-level audiences. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Healthcare Management, or a related field required; Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred. Minimum of 5–7 years of professional experience required; background in management consulting, corporate strategy, technology (specifically AI), or a similarly rigorous analytical/operational role strongly preferred. Demonstrated hands-on experience with AI productivity and workflow tools (e.g., Claude CoWork, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar) required; practical on-the-job application of these tools in a professional setting strongly preferred. Proven ability to synthesize complex information quickly, build structured frameworks for ambiguous problems, and communicate findings clearly to executive audiences; experience in healthcare or highly regulated industries a plus.
Other Skills and Abilities: Results/outcomes oriented. Leadership personality with a high degree of maturity. Ability to work with others in a respectful manner and at the same time be incredibly outcome and data-driven. Ability to earn respect in short order. Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy. Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. Must be able to travel.
