Customs Trade Specialist - S3

This position has a working shift of 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Responsible for coordination of the documentation required by U.S. Customs and other government agencies for entry of goods into the U.S. on behalf of importers.

Key Responsibilities

Obtain correct classification of goods for customs release using databases, SOPs, tariff books, internet, or customs resources.

Enter and process various import‑related documentation for submission to U.S. Customs, and may handle all participating government agencies (PGAs).

Maintain and keep current all shipment documentation and ensure compliance with record‑keeping requirements.

Adhere to all international importing and exporting regulations.

Work closely with internal staff, other FedEx operating companies, customers, and government agencies to provide high‑level service.

Process agency brokerage shipments.

Perform entry reconciliations and reviews as needed.

Ensure all government and organizational policies are followed.

Follow up on customs matters and resolve problems.

May handle remote filings and commodities that require specialized processing to avoid penalties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for Success

HS Diploma or GED required.

Minimum of 6 months' work experience; 12 months of industry experience preferred.

Data entry/keyboard experience required. CCS and/or Brokers license preferred.

Proficiency with MS Office, Outlook, and office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.

Problem‑solving skills with the ability to handle high‑volume, time‑sensitive work.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Capability to use multiple systems and reference materials.

Inter‑acting with customers, carriers, brokers, government agencies, and internal staff at all levels.

Knowledge of customs regulations and harmonized tariff schedules preferred.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

Base hourly pay range: $16.14 – $25.57 USD.

Paid customs industry training provided.

3rd shift (Monday–Friday, 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.). Must reside within 50 miles of Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
