Northern New Jersey Based (hybrid – 3 days in-office) Our client is a global leader in the apparel and retail industry, with a portfolio of internationally recognized flagship brands. As the organization continues to expand across North America, they are seeking a Tax Director to partner closely with the VP of Tax in supporting a growing and complex U.S. and Canadian business. This is a highly visible role responsible for ensuring the company’s tax function operates efficiently, remains compliant across all jurisdictions, and is well-positioned to scale with continued growth. The Tax Director will serve as a key liaison across internal stakeholders, global headquarters, and external partners, while driving process improvements and enhancing overall tax operations. Key Responsibilities Partner with the VP of Tax to lead, manage, and continuously improve all aspects of the company’s tax function Oversee and project manage tax-related initiatives, ensuring clear communication across senior leadership and global teams Act as the primary liaison between the Tax department, executive management, external advisors, global headquarters, and government agencies Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of tax operations Ensure timely and accurate filing of all federal, state, local, and applicable international tax returns Review and support the preparation of U.S. federal, state, and local tax filings Manage and respond to tax notices and inquiries from various jurisdictions Oversee the preparation and review of annual tax provision calculations Support federal and state tax audits, including managing documentation and responses Maintain and manage the company’s tax calendar to ensure all deadlines are met Provide support for the Canadian business to ensure compliance as it continues to grow Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience, including at least 5 years with a Big 4 or large international accounting firm Experience within a multinational organization strongly preferred Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a hands-on, detail-oriented approach Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across functions and levels Experience with ERP and accounting systems
